The group was originally formed in 1958 to serve with the Territorial 7th / 9th (Highlanders) Battalion of The Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment), and they wore a kilt Hunting Stewart.

In 1961, the 7 / 9th Battalion was merged with the 8th Battalion of The Royal Scots to become the 8th / 9th Battalion. In 1967, the 8th / 9th Battalion Royal Scots was part of the Royal Scots and Cameronians Territorials.

This unit was itself dissolved in 1969 and its soldiers were transferred to the 52nd Lowland Volunteers, which had also been mobilized in 1967.

The group finally followed the other elements of the former Royal Scots and Cameronians Territorials, also under the command of the 52nd Lowland Volunteers in 1970, retaining its name as the Royal Scots Territorial Band.

After the formation of the Royal Regiment of Scotland on March 28, 2006, the 52nd Lowland Regiment became the 6th Battalion of the new regiment and the group took the title The Lowland Band from the Royal Regiment of Scotland.

The original Regular Scottish Division Lowland Band was formed under the command of the Corps of Army Music in 1994 and consisted of regular regimental groups.

This group fused from the three Scottish infantry regiments of Lowland at the time, the Royal Scots, the King's Own Scottish Borderers and the Royal Highland Fusiliers.

The group itself merged with the Scottish division's Highland Band in 2006, forming the regular Regimental Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.

The current director of music is Captain Phillip Wood, former band chief of the Royal Regiment of Scotland regular band and band chief of the Light Cavalry Band.

A journey of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo

The last military action at the castle took place during the second Jacobite uprising in 1745. The Jacobite army, under Charles Edward Stuart, captured Edinburgh without a fight in September 1745, but the castle remained between at the hands of General George Preston, who refused to surrender. The Edinburgh Tattoo Tickets can be booked online.

After their victory over the government army at Prestonpans on September 21, the Jacobites attempted to block the castle. Preston's response was to bombard Jacobite positions in the city after the demolition of several buildings and the death of four people, Charles lifted the blockade.

A journey of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo
The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo

The Jacobites themselves did not have heavy weapons to respond, and in November they entered England, leaving Edinburgh to be the garrison of the castle. The uprising would eventually perish on Culloden field in April of the following year.

During the following century, the vaults of the castle were used to hold prisoners of war during several conflicts, notably the Seven Years' War (1756-1763), the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783) and the wars Napoleonic (1803-1815). After a massive escape of prisoners in 1811, it ceased to be used as such from 1814.

The Edinburgh castle regularly began to assume a different role as a national monument. The palace began to be open to visitors in the 1830s. The Sainte-Marguerite chapel was "rediscovered" in 1845, having served as a store for many years.

Works in the 1880s, saw the Argyle tower built above the Portcullis Gate and the great hall restored after years of use as a barracks. A new Gatehouse was built in 1888. The permanent garrison moved in 1923, although the castle was briefly used again as a prison during the Second World War, for captured pilots from the Luftwaffe.

The castle was entrusted to "historic Scotland" when the agency was created in 1991 and was designated a historic monument in 1993. Today, it fulfills several ceremonial, tourist and administrative functions, the military is always present. He is probably best known today for the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo which takes place on the Esplanade every year in August.

The basis of each performance is a parade of pipes and massive drums from Scottish regiments, and since its inception in 1950, the tattoo has developed a complex format that includes a variety of guest performers from around the world, although always with a military majority focus.

The highlight of the evening is the solitary bagpiper on the ramparts of the castle, playing a pibroch in memory of the comrades-in-arms, followed by massive groups joining a mix of traditional Scottish melodies.

The tattoo attracts an annual audience of around 217,000 people and is broadcast in around thirty countries to an estimated television audience of 100 million. The military tattoo is a pageant of color with visiting display teams coming from all over the world
Another tradition that visitors are able to observe is the discharge of the One O’Clock Gun, a time signal, fired every day at precisely 13:00, excepting Sunday, Good Friday and Christmas Day.

First time clans was welcomed into the Edinburgh Castle

On Monday 8 May 2017, more than 30 clan members and clan wives went to the Great Hall at Edinburgh Castle to mark an extremely important occasion in the history books of Scotland. Tattoo fans can buy Edinburgh Tattoo Tickets from our most consistent and unfailing online platform.

It was the first time that clans from Scotland have been welcomed into the castle since the Highland clans marched to the city of Edinburgh to besiege the castle during the Jacobite uprisings in 1745.

The Edinburgh Tattoo

The rally was organized by the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo which celebrated the celebration its own ties to the Scottish diaspora this year.

The gathering of the Scottish diaspora community would be the only time clans have been openly hosted in one of Scotland's oldest fortresses. Clan members were treated to a guided tour of the medieval surroundings of the Great Hall where their ancestors attempted to enter, courtesy of Edinburgh Castle Governor, Major General Mike Riddell-Webster, and organized by the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

In September 1745, over 900 members of the Highland clan traveled to the city of Edinburgh to besiege the castle. Although they managed to capture Edinburgh and Holyrood, in an extremely symbolic gesture, they never managed to capture the castle as a general guest, governor of the time, would not cede the castle to Bonnie Prince Charlie and his men.

Sir Malcolm MacGregor:

Sir Malcolm MacGregor, the organizer of the Permanent Council of Scottish Chiefs, said: "It is a great honor for 57 clans and chiefs to participate in such a prestigious event as the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo this year.
There will be representatives of clans from around the world, consistent with the high international profile of Tattoo and the global nature of today's clan network."

Fiona Hyslop:

Fiona Hyslop, Minister for Culture and External Affairs said: "Scotland's history and heritage are a key attraction for visitors to Scotland, no more than in 2017, the year of history, heritage and archeology.

Clans are an integral part of our rich heritage, their stories shaping Scotland. The clans are arousing considerable interest from the international diaspora and I salute their involvement in this year's Tattoo.

Brigadier David Allfrey, CEO and producer of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, said, "I am delighted that we are welcoming clan leaders and their clan members to the Great Hall in August - 57 clans will be represented!

I am very grateful for the encouragement of the Governor of Edinburgh Castle, the Scottish Ministers, Historic Environment Scotland and the Permanent Council of Scottish Chiefs.

Everyone has been extremely supportive of this initiative which, I believe, offers a wonderful opportunity to strengthen the links between great Scottish families and their friends and relatives around the world. "

The Edinburgh Tattoo

The company behind WeChat, Tencent, was the first to simplify online payment and WeChat Pay has become a reliable method for millions of Chinese users to regularly pay for goods or services directly from their linked mobile handsets
Bank accounts.

China is a world leader in the transition to a cashless society, with the mobile payment market worth 50 times more than in the United States last year, according to recent research.

The agreement was signed and will allow Tattoo to improve a wide range of its services for Chinese visitors, including a live Edinburgh Tattoo ticketing system for the 2018 fair and other services and goods.

The historic deal, which was unveiled by Tattoo CEO and producer Brigadier David Allfrey, follows the continuous influx of Chinese nationals making the trip to the Tattoo each year and the longer goal term to take the event in China in 2020.

There was an 89% increase in Edinburgh Tattoo Tickets sold directly to Chinese visitors for the Tattoo between 2015 and 2016.

CEO and producer of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Brigadier David Allfrey said, "It is a game-changer in building relationships with our Chinese customers and in partnerships in the future."

We have had a number of conversations in China in the past six years and are delighted to be the first Scottish tourism company to connect in this way. It sounds like an important step.

Together, WeChat and WeChat Pay will make talking to current and future customers easier and I hope they will make it easier for visitors to enjoy all that Scotland has to offer.

Beyond that, we are working with Chinese co-producers to bring a major contingent to Scotland in 2018 and take the show to China in 2020. We are proud to contribute to what has been called a golden era for relations between the United Kingdom and China.

We look forward to playing a small role in President Xi Jinping's Belt, Road initiative, which aims to build ties across Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. For us, a road must carry ideas and traffic in both directions, and that perfectly coincides with the central objective of the Tattoo: to bring people together.

The director of Wikaas UK Ltd, Sudhir, said: We are delighted to have the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo on board as our first merchant in Scotland accepting WeChat Pay.

As a "state-of-the-art" payment solution, WeChat Pay will bring major benefits to all parties concerned, while keeping the Chinese customer experience in mind, while promoting the brand The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in China via the official account.

This is all the more timely and relevant given the imminent entry of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo into mainland China in 2020.

Roddy Gow, founder, and president of the Asia Scotland Institute and the initiator of this initiative said: We think this is a very important step in creating really strong links between Scotland and China.

Unlocking the ability of Chinese visitors to pay for services and goods is the start of what could have a transformative influence on a number of different sectors.

The director of tourism at Scottish Development International, Graeme White said, The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is an avant-garde organization, not only preparing for China but now taking the initiative to implement WeChat Pay.

WeChat Pay allows the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo to offer Chinese visitors a familiar and convenient means of payment. It really goes further to meet the needs of their customers. It is an excellent example of a company that listens to its customers in the Far East.

Prince William and Prince Charles both attended the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo

The Duke of Cambridge and The Prince of Wales attended the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo for the first time in 2017. The Edinburgh Tattoo 2020 Tickets can be booked online.

A cast of over 1,200 people from around the world performed at Edinburgh Castle in front of the royal duo. The performances included more than 250 pipers and drummers, five British military groups and the first Japanese act of the event, as well as major contingents from France and the United States.

Charles is known as the Duke of Rothesay in Scotland, and it was the Rothesay flag that flew above the castle once arrived. The Prince, dressed in a Royal Navy admiral uniform, was at the Tattoo as a guest of honor, accompanied by William.

In front of the sold-out show, the royal duo made a toast to good health, given in Gaelic, with a 10-year Glenkinchie whiskey dram, which comes from the distillery closest to Edinburgh.

The 9th French Marine Infantry Brigade Fanfare Band was among the highlights, with Better, Faster, Harder, Strong with two of the musicians wearing Daft Punk style helmets.

Some fireworks had to be canceled due to strong winds, which also caused the central band of Japan Ground Self Defense Force Central to fall on the drummer halfway through their set.

The royal duo received a special performance before the tattoo at the Palace of Holy Roodhouse. The acts gave Charles and William close representation in the yard. The prince and duke then spent time talking with artists and posed for a group photo.

William wore a black tie with Submariner Dolphins and Golden and Diamond Jubilee medals. Its 68th season recognizes 2017 as the year of the Royal Navy and precedes the official name of the aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales later this year.

It also marks the Year of Scottish History, Heritage and Archeology with a second theme "Splash of Tartan". Charles and William, who takes the title of Earl of Strathearn north of the border, attended the tattoo around the middle of his August run.

The first Edinburgh Tattoo took place in 1950, with the first overseas regiment in 1952. Since then, 48 countries from six continents have been represented at the Tattoo.
It attracts an annual audience of around 220,000 people, which means that more than 14 million people have attended the Tattoo since its inception.
