Do you know about first non-military band which joins Edinburgh Tattoo

Top Secret Drum Corps is a accuracy drum corps which based in Basel, Switzerland. Top Secret Drum Corps is the first ever non-military band which performed in the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in 2003 and after their first successful performance of their six minute routine with 25 drummers and color guard members; Edinburgh Tattoo were invited that band in 2006 with some improved and new routines and then they were invited in 2009, 2012 and again in 2015. The first performance of Top Secret Drum Corps in Edinburgh Military Tattoo made them famous. Top Secret Drum Corps is the first non-military, non-British Commonwealth performers who have been performed in the public walk at Edinburgh Castle. Erik Julliard was the leader of the band and due the Top Secret Drum Corps band Basel Tattoo found just like similar to Edinburgh Tattoo but it held annually in Basel only.

Top Secret band has their unique Drumming style. They have roots in the ironic drumming traditions of the band’s home city which is located in Basel, Switzerland which is identified for its annual carnival that called Fasnacht. The amazing thing of that city is that it has over 3,000 active drummers any time. These drummers show their talent in traditional events like Fasnacht, the Vogel Gryff and Charivari. These drummers also performed in some parades related with the city’s guild. Basel drumming is actually derived from military drumming drills of Swiss soldiers of middle ages. Top Secret follows by the military nature of Basel drumming in many ways but much different in many respects. Top Secrets Drum Corps members belongs to loyal college students with different day jobs, bankers, civil servants and factory workers etc. they devoted their extra time to practice nearly every day of the year and due to different nature of work, its membership changes frequently.

Performers participated in Edinburgh Military Tattoo from start to now



Throughout many years many International Military bands and even African bands had been performed at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. The Royal Netherlands Grenadiers band was the first regiment who join the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in 1952 and up to now more than 30 countries represented at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo from approximately all the continents. The Swiss Top Secret Drum Corps who known well popular performers also participated at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in 2000, 2006, 2009, 2012, 2015 and this band was the first non-military drum corps who participated in it. The King Guard of theNorwegian Army’s band and drum has also been performed at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo on forgoing eight occasions ever since 1961 and they also adopted a penguin, Nils Olav as their good luck charm in 1972 at Edinburgh Zoo. From some past years, cultural and traditional dances and items has also been counted in Edinburgh military Tattoo from different countries.

The best part of every Tattoo continues with the massed pipes and drums on the other hand, provided by the British Army and go to see civilian and military pipes and drums around the world. Every evening arranges with the traditional massed pipes and drums trooping to join the massed military bands and after it, it is followed by National Anthem and Auld Lang Syne before hand down flag ceremony with sounding the Last Post. In 2005, there was seemed the second largest gathering of pipes and drums bands on parade which were the 13 in the numbers in which the pipes and drums of all six steady infantry teams of the Scottish Division and it was the last when all six bands participated at the Edinburgh military Tattoo.

·         Royal Highland Fusiliers (Princess Margaret's Own Glasgow and Ayrshire Regiment)
·         King's Own Scottish Borderers
·         Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment)
·         The Highlanders (Seaforth, Gordons and Camerons)
·         Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (Princess Louise's) 



In accumulation, there were also the pipes and drums of the Scots GuardsIrish GuardsRoyal Gurkha RiflesScottish Officers Training CorpsSouth African Irish Regiment, the Rats of Tobruk, the City of Wellington pipe band and The Scots College Pipes and Drums band, participated. The largest ever gathering of massed pipes and drums was on 50th anniversary of Edinburgh Military Tattoo in 2000 when there were 15 bands participating on parade, including 7 of the eight Scottish regiments. During the period of the Tattoo, the performers are provide somewhere to stay at the city's Redford Cavalry Barracks, with the parade square used for rehearsals.

Officially Edinburgh Military Tattoo starts in 1950 in which eight items included in the program and it attracted 6,000 views which was seated around the path of north, south and east sides of Edinburgh Castle on simple benches with supported structures. The Edinburgh Tattoo spread their plans for Gulf States and Asia

After recently finished colorful event of The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo which was run in Wellington, the organizers wishes in near future for The Gulf States and Asia for increases their traditional business. The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo event contains massed pipe bands and dancers which funds £77 Million to the Scotland’seconomy per annual. Brigadier David Allfrey, producer and chief executive of The Royal Military Tattoo said that the audience welcomed them very nicely and they behave very friendly to the entertainment band which made us to take the show abroad regularly even some places didn’t have any historical links to Scotland. Now the Brigadier, David Allfrey is wishes to go on the roads of The Gulf States and China with The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
